Abstract
Objectives: This study aimed to explore eating propensity and eating behaviors among adult women.

Methods: We performed a content analysis of qualitative data collected from 14 adults through a face-to-face interview in 2017.
Semi-structured questions were used for the interview with the central question of ¡°What are the circumstances in which you eat?¡± The recorded interview was transcribed, as expressed by the study participants.

Results: Through content analysis, 8 categories and 22 subcategories were identified. The themes of eating propensities that were identified in this study were as follows. ¡°Eating related to emotional reasons,¡± ¡°Eating related to physical condition,¡± ¡°Eating related to food perception,¡± ¡°Sociocultural environments stimulating eating,¡± ¡°Eating due to interpersonal relationships,¡± ¡°Eating for work,¡± ¡°Habitual eating,¡± and ¡°Restrained eating.¡±

Conclusion: Eating propensity reflects sociocultural characteristics. It is necessary to develop an eating propensity scale that reflects the regional characteristics of Korean adults. Education and consulting programs for obesity prevention and management need to be developed and applied, considering the attributes of eating propensity obtained in this study.
